  • Gigi Mitchell, President

    Margaret (Gigi) Mitchell has been involved with G2S since its inception 11 years ago and has watched it grow from idea to reality. She has degrees from Western Michigan University, Oakland University, and Grand Valley State University. She is a retired public school employee, and as such, has been able to offer suggestions to those involved in developing educational programs for students who have not responded to conventional learning methods. Gigi is involved with Pentwater Service Club in providing support for students and the community by assisting with fundraising and scholarships. Baking is her passion, and bringing treats to board meetings has proven to be a treat for all!

  • Jack Provencal, Vice-President

    Has served in public education as a teacher, guidance counselor, athletic coach, assistant principal, and director of athletics. Current community involvements include membership in the Pentwater Service Club and the Pentwater Athletic Boosters. Jack is married, lives in Pentwater and his leisure time activities include golfing, kayaking, motorcycling, reading, and listening to music. He is both honored and excited to become part of the unique programs and opportunities provided to G2S students by its' exceptionally talented staff.

  • Karen Halderman, Secretary

    Karen Haldeman’s son, Dalton, graduated from G2S during the start of the pandemic in 2020 and seeing the opportunities it gave him, she knew that she wanted to give back in some way. Karen is originally from Manistee and graduated from Manistee Catholic Central. Karen works as the Planning and Assessing Clerk for the City of Ludington, where she has been employed for 14 years. She enjoys volunteering and being involved in the community, dancing and trying new arts and crafts. She likes traveling and camping with her husband of 23 years. She also recently found a passion for baking. She was appointed to the Board in 2022.

  • Wayne Brown, Treasure

    A local businessman dedicated to giving back. Mason County is not just Wayne’s birthplace, it's also his home. He has been an entrepreneur, owning the family farm and several other businesses over the years. For 35 years, Wayne has been the owner of the Wayne E. Brown Insurance Agency. He considers himself fortunate to have raised his family in this community. Wayne is eager to give back to the community by sharing his time and expertise to support education in Mason County. Promoting and supporting the concept of Gateway to Success from the initial fundraising through organizing and obtaining the greenhouse, Wayne believes that G2S is an asset to the students in the area and has personally seen the benefits the programs have provided to years of successful graduates.

  • Karl Schrumpf, Board Member

    Karl Schrumpf is a Grand Valley State University graduate. He was a teacher for four years, both in the United States and in Venezuela. Karl has worked for 42 years in the office furniture industry and currently manages a national sales team for a tribally owned Native American company. Education has always been in the forefront for Karl, and he is passionate about creating opportunities for youth to grow. In his spare time, he considers himself to be an amateur landscaper, and he is a GVSU football alumni. He was appointed to the board in 2022.

  • Lesley (Lee) Murphy, Board Member

    Lesley (Lee) Murphy has served in public education for 32 years as a classroom teacher, Interim principal and a math and reading interventionist.  She spent 26 years of her career in Juneau and Kenai, Alaska teaching 6th grade. Upon retirement, she moved back to Ludington and was appointed to the G2S board of education in 2024.  Lee is passionate about education and considers herself a lifelong learner.  She enjoys being present at G2S watching the students learn academically, socially and achieving their personal goals with the support of the talented staff.  She continues to tutor and mentor many students outside of the classroom. She has been married 41 years, raised two children and spends a lot of time at Hemlock Golf Course as a Ranger and plays golf frequently. Lee prefers the outdoors and frequents sporting events.  She considers it an honor and a privilege to be a board member at Gateway to Success Academy.
